Unfortunately, there’s limited space at the Plyco end-of-year party (it’s very exclusive – locally grown hardwood only), so instead you’re invited to join us on a journey back through space and time as we review the year 2022.
The thing is, it’s not just for us to celebrate. You, our Plyco community, are the whole reason we’re here. So please, join the party as we recap all the woodworking highlights from our year, including an exhibition at the Melbourne Design Week and crazy new product launches like our Retro Laminates. We may even give some hints about the exciting things to come…
So let's sit back, have a well earned cold one and reflect on the year that was.
A certain seasonal figure has factory elves packing his yearly orders, but it works a bit differently for a plywood supplier. We have a team of amazing people behind every experience you have at Plyco and feel so lucky to say that we were able to expand our staff roster this year and with that, our ability to help our fantastic customers.
We have to shout out the newest Plyco team members: Jake Waltrowcz, (Fulfilment Associate) and Laurence Wiesener (Logistics Coordinator) who keep everything running smoothly. We’ve also welcomed a number of talented new factory floor staff members this year and even grown our Fairfield location by taking over the second floor. It’s allowed us to offer a larger showroom of products for all you curious customers to see in person. If you want to see our newest products, they’re available on-site for your full perusal.
We were also available for your viewing pleasure at the Melbourne Design Week, where we sponsored an exhibition alongside Assemble Communities. Presented by Never Too Small, the event was focused on showcasing furniture solutions for contemporary, small-space living. We got to see chairs that were also coffee tables and best of all, were able to celebrate more sustainable living practices with the Melbourne design community. After lockdowns and the like, these events feel more precious than ever and we’re so grateful to everyone who came to support it.
Gifts shouldn’t be reserved for the holidays, which is why we packed more sales into 2022 that any other year in Plyco’s history. Beyond our Christmas Sale, we also held a Birthday Sale in July and threw an April Flash Sale. Our most loyal and engaged customers even got access to a cheeky VIP sale in October, proving that December isn’t the only month it’s worth being on the “nice” list for.
We were also big on competitions this year and gave away more than $1500 in prizes to our social media fans. If you missed out, make sure you’re following us on Instagram. There you’ll see our most recent winner, Surf Coast CNC, who took home our last prize for 2022 with their playful reels and maybe be able to catch the next big win yourself...
One thing we proved without a doubt in 2022 is how varied the options can be for plywood, MDF, and laminate products. Here are some of the highlights from our new product launches this year:
New Product |
Description |
We expanded our CD Structural Plywood offering and now have both softwood and hardwood options available. Extremely versatile, our softwood is made from Australian and New Zealand plantation-grown pine. |
|
Not only did we launch the EGGER Worktop range this year, but we also introduced the Egger Panels with matching edging. Available in a number of beautiful, timber grain melamine surfaces, the panels can be cut to size and with our Plyco edging surface, things are made even simpler. |
|
FSC certified, our Gaboon Plywood options are lightweight, making them perfectly suited to boatbuilding and marine applications. These products aren’t just for the seas though, the Gaboon Exterior plywood manages to trump even our Hardwood Exterior Plywood in terms of longevity. It can be used for joinery, as well as wall and ceiling linings. The same is true of the Marine Plywood. |
|
This product launch was for all our mobile home and caravan lovers. Almost as lightweight as our European Poplar Plywood, but cheaper, our BC Falcata Plywood works excellently as an underlay for decorative laminates. It’s the perfect substrate or decorative panel for anyone wanting to keep the materials on their project lightweight and inexpensive. |
|
Made from Ultra Moisture Resistant MDF, our Designer Groove collection is formaldehyde free, primed for painting and ready to bring a whole new feel to your interiors. Because of its moisture resistant qualities, it can be used in wet and dry interior applications but most importantly: it comes in three, classic variations. |
|
As its name would suggest, this wall cladding product is made to weather well. It’s suitable for both interior and exterior applications, easy to maintain and manufactured in Australia. It’s also a great eco-friendly alternative to our beloved Shadowclad. |
|
|
If you’ve struggled at places like Bunnings Plywood to finding wall cladding or ceiling lining panels with the V-Groove that made Pinoli so iconic, but at a more affordable price point, look no further. Our Radiate VJ100 panels are a design classic that won’t break the bank. |
|
One of our most exciting launches of the year, especially for our Plyco vintage lovers, this limited collection presented “retro” laminates that are no longer being manufactured. At the time of writing this, they’re almost sold out! |
|
Love a bit of laser-cutting? Delivering a consistent 3mm thickness and available in a range of exotic timber veneers not available on any of our other ready-made panels, this lasercutting beauty set the imagination of Australian pyrographers alight. |
|
Available with a white gloss or premium matte white polyester finish, this product is ideal for interior applications. It’s simple, practical and when used well, can create a seamless look that never dates. |
There’s going to be a new plywood supplier in New Zealand next year when we finally open our Plyco NZ Store! This new venture means that New Zealand’s growing laser-cutting hobbyist and small business scene will soon be able to order our pre-packaged Laserply, Micropanel, and Legnoply products with local shipping, making it cheaper and more convenient.
We also have quite a few new products coming your way, including an expanded selection of wall panelling and ceiling lining panels tailored for caravans and RVs with a melamine laminate finish. Next up, we’re also adding to the idea of what it means to be a “plywood supplier” with our new Scandinavian-inspired furniture. Designed and manufactured by Plyco right here in Melbourne, once launched you’ll be able to purchase it from this link.
Finally, after months of anticipation, in 2023 we’ll be launching Plyco’s Australian trade discount program, Plypal. We’re already accepting signups, so get clicking because this program will offer some seriously mouth-watering discounts for our community and exclusive perks for registered builders on an array of popular construction plywood, MDF and particleboard materials.
The real highlight of 2022 was expanding and connecting more with our Plyco community. It brought such excitement to our team to see the explosion of projects you sent and tagged us in 2022 – please keep them coming. We love any chance to promote your work and show off the amazing local projects happening. It keeps us inspired.
Your support made this year a joy from start to finish, thank you. We can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for the Plyco community. Let the woodworking party continue!
