The Plyco Guide to Melamine

High-quality, sleek, beautiful, hard wearing, and affordable. These are the key ingredients that make Plyco’s Melamine products the superstars that they are. Many people look towards our Decoply or Spotless Laminate collections when searching for a strong Plywood with an eye-catching coloured laminate, but as you do so you’ll be overlooking our extensive Melamine range and potentially hurting your project in the process!

What is Melamine?

Melamine Panels are a high-quality Particle Board or MDF, but with a coloured Melamine surface bonded to both sides, giving the product a sleek and pre-finished look. Melamine boards stand out with their clean, hard wearing surface, which makes it suitable for a number of different purposes.

One of the greatest things about Melamine is just how many different forms it is available in. Whether it’s our pre-edged and pre-drilled Black or White Melamine, the High Moisture Resistant options, or Velvet and Satin finishes, you’ll be amazed at just how many different products fall under this banner.

Similarly, when it comes to dimensions, Melamine covers a lot of ground. Our White Melamine comes in four different thicknesses (12, 16, 18 and 25mm), while our Black Melamine comes in 16 and 18mm. Similarly, the White Melamine has four sheet sizes to choose from (2400 x 1200, 2400 x 1800, 2700 x 1200 and 3600 x 1800mm) and our Black Melamine comes in a standard 2400 x 1200mm sheet size.

Melamine Applications

Joinery and Melamine go hand in hand. Not a week goes by at Plyco HQ where we don’t receive photos of a satisfied customer who has just completed a joinery project with a few sheets of Melamine. Internal cabinetry, drawers, and shelving are the most standard applications for these products. We also see it commonly used to create magnificent book cases or in sleek shop fitting jobs.

Plyco's Melamine products thrive in a moisture-prone settings

Because Melamine is either Particleboard or MDF with a Melamine surface bonded to it, it is able to be used in many of the ways those products are used on their own. Essentially, if MDF or Particle Board can get the job done, then Melamine can get the job done too, but with extra flare.

The High Moisture Resistant variety can be utilised in moisture-prone areas such as kitchens, laundries, and bathrooms, meaning you can pretty much use Melamine though every room in your house.
