Grand Designs is one of the longest-running and most popular home design television programmes. The original British series has been running since 1999, while Grand Designs Australia has been a staple on Aussie screens since 2010. Naturally, we are massive fans of the series here at Plyco, so you could imagine how over the moon we were when we saw our very own products being featured in an episode from last year!
Obviously, just getting a starring role in an episode of Grand Designs Australia was enough to make us ecstatic, but that wasn’t the only thing that got us excited. This particular episode featured Tim Hill designing his family home. What’s so special about Tim Hill you ask? Well, he’s only the architect who constructed Melbourne’s iconic Federation Square!
The mastermind behind Federation Square
So not only were we lucky enough to be in an episode of Grand Designs Australia (which is a dream come true in itself), but we also got to work alongside the man responsible for one of the most recognisable buildings in the entire country. You couldn’t think up a more perfect fantasy situation for Plyco if you tried.
In this episode, Tim Hill has decided to embark on an ambitious project (would you expect anything less from than man behind Fed Square?) to build a “house of curves”. Hill has foregone the traditional straight lines you’d see in a typical house, instead choosing to go for an outrageous design that is actually shaped like a foot. The commitment to making everything curved inside the house runs so deep that their bed is the single piece of furniture inside that is square; everything else is rounded! It seems like an extremely out of left field idea and is hard to wrap your head around when hearing about it. However, seeing it with your own eyes is a sight to behold.
