The Top Properties of Laser Plywood

This post is part of Plyco’s Guide to Laser Plywood

Laser Plywood and regular Plywood are two very different things. Unlike other branches of Ply, like Marine Plywood, that are still mostly the same as a stock-standard board, Laser Plywood is packed full of properties that set it apart. In fact, in many ways being classified as Plywood is the only major thing our Laserply products have in common with regular Plywood. To give you the perfect idea of what this exceptionally creative range is, we’ve put together this post about the Top Properties of Laser Plywood. It also gives the team here at Plyco an extra chance to do the thing they love most in the world; talk about all the amazing qualities of Plywood!

The Three Keys to a Perfect Laser Plywood

If you read our blog post answering the question “What is Laser Plywood?”, you might be aware that there are three properties that every single piece of Laser Plywood needs to have. Without these properties, you’re going to run into plenty of minor issues at the least and will be exposed to serious injury hazards at the worst. The expert team here at Plyco have put many hours of research into how to get the most out of Plywood when paired with laser cutting, and have come to the conclusion that these three properties are non-negotiable.

The three key properties of any good Laser Plywood are a glue compatible with laser cutting, an absence of core gaps, and the correct density of the wood. A compatible glue allows the Plywood to actually cut well. Without this, your sheet will start to burn or will just flat-out refuse to make cuts, which is obviously less than ideal. If you have even a tiny hint of a core gap you’re allowing air bubbles to build up, which, when combined with laser cutting, will burst and cause the wood to crack. By making sure our Laserply is free of core gaps, we’re making sure that your Plywood doesn’t fall to pieces as soon as you get it. Finally, by making sure our products are the right density, we ensure that it cuts cleanly. If you use a piece of Plywood that is too dense you’ll get very poor and ugly cuts, or like using a non-compatible glue, it won’t cut at all.

Australian Made Laser Plywood

A huge positive for those of you who love to support 100% Australian made products is that several of our Laser Plywood products are entirely homegrown. Both our Eucalypt Laserply and Beech Laserply are made in-house at the Plyco manufacturing plant in Fairfield, meaning if you’re looking to support local products these are the choice for you. We also offer Jarrah Laser Plywood, Queensland Walnut Laser Plywood, and Tasmanian Golden Sassafras Laser Plywood as part of our beautiful Australian made options.

Not only will buying these mean that you're supporting local industry, but the visual characteristics of these sheets all carry that unique touch of the Australian environment, which can be the perfect cherry on top of your project.

A Laser Plywood for Every Occasion

Because we have such a huge variety in our Laserply range there are so many properties that are specific to individual types of Laser Plywood. If we were to go over every single property in each of our twelve options we’d quite literally have you reading this post for an entire day! So, instead of overwhelming you with more information than you can process, we’re going to highlight the properties that we love the most.

As we mentioned earlier, we stock Hoop Pine Laserply, which harnesses the top quality of our regular Hoop Pine Plywood and combines it with a laser cutting friendly board. Hoop Pine is widely regarded as one of the best Plywood products in the world, so if you’re looking to make a big splash with whatever you’re crafting up, this is the Laser Plywood for you.

Plyco's Poplar Laser Grade Plywood

If you’re searching for something extremely reliable that can be counted on to get the job done every time, we suggest our Poplar Laserply. Poplar not only has an A-grade face, but also cuts extremely well via laser. We often see some of the very best results with this product.

Something that often surprises customers is the addition of Bamboo Laser Plywood to our Laser Grade Plywood. This is an extremely trendy option thanks to the look of the Bamboo, and the fact that it comes in two different options (Natural or Carbonised) even further adds to that. However, in our humble opinion, the best property possessed by our Bamboo Laserply is its intense strength. This is a strong and reliable option, so if you’re looking to build something that needs to be sturdy Bamboo could be your best friend. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s the most environmentally friendly Plywood product either.
