Welcome to the next instalment of featured customer projects. This time we're shining a spotlight on Plyco legends, Colin and Jenna. Let's hear from the talented team in their own words!
About Our Project
We are Jenna and Colin and we live on the pretty as a picture lands of the Boon Wurrung / Mornington Peninsula. We both work, Jenna as a Teacher and Colin as a Carpenter and Boat Hand.
We purchased our first house in 2019. It was a one owner, one bedroom, timber cabin that was shipped over from Tasmania in the late 80’s. In 2021 we had our baby Remy and purchased our second home. This home is in need of an extensive renovation, so here we go again!
We have chosen to showcase the kitchen we designed and built.
Sustainability First
With sustainability at the heart of all our practices, we chose to use Plyco’s Birch Premium Plywood as the primary material because we wanted a product that has very little impact on the environment.
We learnt on Plyco’s website that harvesting the trees doesn’t hurt the biodiversity of the region because they grow so quickly that replacing and re-growing is a relatively easy process.
The Birch has wonderful warm tones and intricate grain detail that really came to life once oiled. We chose Plyco’s Spotless Laminate in white for the bench-top as it’s easy to clean and breaks up the warmth of the Birch perfectly.
Construction Approach
Colin enjoyed building the island bench the most because there were no plans! He had a vision and created something that worked exactly for our needs. It began his appreciation for Birch ply and is probably the reason why you will see it featured in every other space in the house!
We are really excited to explore some other plywood materials from Plyco in our new home which will have a very different and colourful aesthetic. Stay tuned!
